Make the dough:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
Gradually add the warm water and stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Form the dough into a ball, place it in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Make the sauce:
In a medium saucepan, combine the crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until the sauce has thickened.
If desired, blend the sauce with an immersion blender for a smoother consistency.
