Classic LasagnaIngredients:
For the pasta:
1 lb lasagna noodlesFor the filling:
1 lb ground beef 1 lb Italian sausage 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce 1 (12 oz) can tomato paste 1 tbsp dried oregano 1 tbsp dried basil 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepperFor the sauce:
3 cups whole milk 1 cup ricotta cheese 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese 1/4 cup grated Romano cheeseInstructions:
To make the pasta:
1.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2.
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles al dente, according to package directions.
3.
Remove noodles from pot and drain.
Set aside.
To make the filling:
1.
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat.
2.
Drain off any excess fat.
3.
Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
4.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper.
5.
Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 15 minutes.
To make the sauce:
1.
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and Romano cheese.
To assemble the lasagna:
1.
Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2.
Top with 6 lasagna noodles.
3.
Spread with 1 cup of the sauce mixture.
4.
Repeat layers twice more.
5.
Top with remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
To bake:
1.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and heated through.
2.
Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
