Classic Lasagna RecipeIngredients:
For the Meat Sauce:
– 1 pound ground beef- 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casing- 1 onion, chopped- 2 cloves garlic, minced- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes- 15 ounces tomato sauce- 1 teaspoon dried oregano- 1 teaspoon dried basil- 1 teaspoon salt- 1/2 teaspoon black pepperFor the Béchamel Sauce:
– 5 tablespoons unsalted butter- 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour- 4 cups milk- 1/2 teaspoon salt- 1/4 teaspoon nutmegFor the Assembly:
– 12 lasagna noodles- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheeseInstructions:
For the Meat Sauce:

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium-high heat.
Drain off any excess fat.

Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper.
Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
For the Béchamel Sauce:

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.

Season with salt and nutmeg.
To Assemble the Lasagna:
1.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread 1 cup of the meat sauce over the bottom.

Top with 4 lasagna noodles.

Spread 1/2 cup of the Béchamel sauce over the noodles.
5.
Sprinkle with 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese.
6.
Repeat layers twice more.
7.
Top with the remaining meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
8.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
9.
Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
10.
Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
