Classic Spaghetti and MeatballsIngredients:
For the Meatballs:
1 pound ground beef 1/2 pound ground pork 1 cup bread crumbs 1/2 cup milk 1 egg, beaten 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/4 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup chopped parsley 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Salt and pepper to tasteFor the Tomato Sauce:
2 tablespoons olive oil 1 large onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste 1 cup chicken broth 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 bay leaf Salt and pepper to tasteFor the Spaghetti:
1 pound spaghetti noodlesInstructions:
To make the Meatballs:
1.
In a large bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients.
Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.
2.
Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
3.
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
4.
Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
5.
Remove the meatballs from the saucepan and set aside.
To make the Tomato Sauce:
1.
In the same saucepan, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
2.
Add the onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
3.
Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute more.
4.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, chicken broth, oregano, basil, and bay leaf.
5.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
6.
Add the browned meatballs to the sauce and simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
To make the Spaghetti:
1.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
2.
Add the spaghetti noodles and cook according to the package directions.
3.
Drain the noodles and set aside.
To serve:
1.
Ladle a scoop of the tomato sauce over the spaghetti noodles.
2.
Top with the meatballs.
3.
Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
