For the dough:

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes 1/2 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon dried basil Salt and pepper to taste For the toppings:
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Your choice of additional toppings (such as pepperoni, sausage, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms)Instructions:

To make the dough, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water.
Let stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast is foamy.

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
Add the yeast mixture and olive oil and stir until a dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

While the dough is rising, make the sauce.
In a medium saucepan, combine the crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Preheat the oven to 500°F.

Punch down the dough and divide it in half.
Roll out each half into a 12-inch circle.

Spread the sauce over the dough circles, leaving a 1-inch border.
Sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese and your choice of toppings.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
