Spaghetti Bolognese with Homemade Marinara SauceIngredients:
For the Marinara Sauce:
1 tablespoon olive oil 1 medium onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes 1 (15-ounce) can tomato paste 1/2 cup dry red wine (optional) 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano 1 bay leaf Salt and freshly ground black pepper to tasteFor the Spaghetti:
1 pound dried spaghetti 1/2 pound ground beef 1/3 cup chopped red onion 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1/4 cup beef broth 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheeseInstructions:
To make the Marinara Sauce:
1.
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
3.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), basil, oregano, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
4.
Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cook for at least 30 minutes, or up to several hours.
To make the Spaghetti:
1.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions.
Reserve 1 cup of the pasta cooking water before draining.

While the spaghetti is cooking, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat.
Drain off any excess fat.
3.
Add the red onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
4.
Stir in the tomato paste and beef broth.
Cook for 1 minute more.
5.
Drain the spaghetti and add it to the skillet with the sauce.
Toss to combine.
6.
Add the reserved pasta cooking water as needed to achieve desired consistency.
7.
Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
To serve:
1.
Top the spaghetti with the marinara sauce and Parmesan cheese.
2.
Serve hot and enjoy!
